The central feature of Sri Lankan cuisine is boiled or steamed rice, served with a curry of fish, chicken, beef or mutton, along with other curries made with vegetables, lentils, or fruits.
There are several food items very famous among tourists such as Rice & curries, Kottu, Hoppers, String hoppers, Lamprais, Pittu, Roti.
The food is very cheap generally, with a cheap meal costing about two dollars.
Tropical produce such as Pineapple, Mangosteen, Riped Jack, Avocado, Rambutan, Star Fruit, Passion fruit and Anoda are acclaimed for their unique flavour, aroma, and colour.
Available for very reasonable prices. However some fruits are grown only seasonally. For Example Rambutan, Durian & Mangosteen are available only from May to July.
